We're back! [dRD] 2016
The Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) and the Centro Cultural de España (CCESD) commemorate Dominican Designer Day with the second edition of the biennial event: design Dominican Republic [dRD]. From the 29 of July to the 10th of September, [dRD] explore the relationship between craft and design, showing how designers can collaborate with artisan to stimulate the development and preservation of craftsmanship.
In this edition we will have international guests such as the Puerto Rican designer Eddie Figueroa http://www.eddiefigueroa.info/ and Brazilian designers Furf http://furf.com.br/ who will conduct workshops and conferences. There will also be webconferences by professional designers and craftsmen of Mexico (Kerim Fahara and Karime Perez of "Mexican bite"), Peru (Maria del Carmen of "Allpac"), Ecuador (Silvia Zeas and "defactors"), Colombia (José Argotty) and Uruguay (Cecilia Lalanne of "Manos de Uruguay").
During [dRD], the CCESD will host exhibitions in which well known Dominicans designers will launch new products that mix design and craftsmanship, besides presenting a selection of those carried out in collaboration with a local artisan or failing materials or craft techniques that are already part of your collection.
There will also be an exhibit of products made with palm leaf weaving, locally know as “guano”, based on the work of craft women of El Limón de Mata del Jobo in Santiago Rodriguez.
Keep tuned for more information!
